Embelia ovata merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Primulaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di wilayah Sumatra. Nama ilmiah Embelia ovata pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Rudolph Herman Christiaan Carel Scheffer pada tahun 1867.
