Eremopyrum orientale merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Afrika barat laut, Rumania, hingga China (Nei Mongol) dan Himalaya barat. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan oriental false wheatgrass. Nama ilmiah Eremopyrum orientale pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Hippolyte François Jaubert pada tahun 1851.
