Eucalyptus obliqua merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Myrtaceae (suku jambu-jambuan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Kepulauan Nusa Tenggara (Timor), Queensland tenggara, hingga Australia Tenggara. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan messmate. Nama ilmiah Eucalyptus obliqua pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Charles Louis L'Héritier de Brutelle pada tahun 1789.
