Euphorbia lathyris merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Euphorbiaceae (suku kastuba-kastubaan) yang memiliki siklus hidup dua musim (biennial). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Asia tengah hingga Pakistan. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan moleplant. Nama ilmiah Euphorbia lathyris diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1753.
