Ara samurai merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Moraceae (suku ara-araan). Tumbuhan yang dikenal dengan nama ilmiah Ficus adenosperma ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Sulawesi hingga Vanuatu. Di Indonesia ara samurai memiliki beberapa nama, antara lain ada yang menyebutnya fangkis (Papua), nusu, atau tintinalino (Sulawesi). Nama ilmiah Ficus adenosperma diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel pada tahun 1867.
