Halophila ovalis adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan dari famili Hydrocharitaceae. Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan tumbuh di air (hidrofit) dan membentuk akar rimpang. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Red Sea hingga Madagaskar dan Pasifik. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan seagrass. Nama ilmiah Halophila ovalis diperkenalkan oleh Robert Brown pada tahun 1858.
