Hibiscus nelsonii merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Malvaceae (suku kapas-kapasan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di wilayah Meksiko (Oaxaca: between Nopola dan Mixistepec). Nama ilmiah Hibiscus nelsonii pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Joseph Nelson Rose pada tahun 1923.
