Hydrocotyle prolifera merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Araliaceae (suku mangkok-mangkokan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Amerika Serikat bagian timur dan selatan, Amerika tengah, Kuba, hingga Puerto Rico. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan whorled marshpennywort. Nama ilmiah Hydrocotyle prolifera pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Albert Kellogg pada tahun 1854.
