Hyparrhenia rufa adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari kawasan tropis Afrika, Afrika Selatan, Samudera Hindia bagian barat, China bagian selatan-tengah, hingga Indo-China. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan jaraguagrass. Nama ilmiah Hyparrhenia rufa diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck pada tahun 1919.
