Hypochaeris melanolepis merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Chili tengah dan selatan-tengah hingga Argentina barat daya. Nama ilmiah Hypochaeris melanolepis diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Rodolfo Amando Philippi pada tahun 1894.
