Hypochaeris radicata merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Eropa hingga Kaukasia. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan hairy cat's ear. Nama ilmiah Hypochaeris radicata diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1753.
