Ipomoea heterotricha merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Convolvulaceae (suku kangkung-kangkungan). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan tumbuh memanjat. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Cape Verde hingga kawasan tropis Afrika. Nama ilmiah Ipomoea heterotricha pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Didrik Ferdinand Didrichsen pada tahun 1854.
