Ipomoea macrorhiza merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Convolvulaceae (suku kangkung-kangkungan) yang memiliki kebiasaan membentuk umbi di bawah tanah (geofit) dan berpola tumbuh memanjat. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Amerika Serikat bagian tenggara. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan largeroot morning-glory. Nama ilmiah Ipomoea macrorhiza pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis André Michaux pada tahun 1803.
