Ipomoea pulcherrima merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Convolvulaceae (suku kangkung-kangkungan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering. Nama ilmiah Ipomoea pulcherrima pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Simon Jan van Ooststroom pada tahun 1933.
