Justicia betonica merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Acanthaceae (suku jeruju-jerujuan) yang tumbuh dalam bentuk perdu kecil atau semak. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan squirrel's tail. Nama ilmiah Justicia betonica pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carolus Linnaeus dalam Species Plantarum tahun 1753.
