Lathyrus hygrophilus merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Ethiopia hingga Malawi. Nama ilmiah Lathyrus hygrophilus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Paul Hermann Wilhelm Taubert pada tahun 1895.
