Lathyrus latifolius merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan tumbuh memanjat. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah Eropa timur-tengah dan selatan, Afrika barat laut. Nama ilmiah Lathyrus latifolius diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1753.
