Lonchocarpus violaceus adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Kolombia hingga Lesser Antilles dan Brazil timur. Nama ilmiah Lonchocarpus violaceus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin pada tahun 1825.
