Lucuma rivicoa merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Sapotaceae (suku sawo-sawoan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di kawasan tropis Amerika selatan. Nama ilmiah Lucuma rivicoa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Karl Friedrich von Gaertner pada tahun 1807.
