Lupinus horizontalis merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah California selatan dan selatan-tengah. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan sunset lupine. Nama ilmiah Lupinus horizontalis diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Amos Arthur Heller pada tahun 1905.
