Lupinus hyacinthinus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari California selatan hingga Meksiko (Baja California bagian utara). Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan san jacinto lupine. Nama ilmiah Lupinus hyacinthinus diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Edward Lee Greene pada tahun 1910.
