Lupinus polycarpus merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Kanada barat hingga California. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan smallflower lupine. Nama ilmiah Lupinus polycarpus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Edward Lee Greene pada tahun 1888.
