Maripa scandens merupakan tumbuhan berkayu dari famili Convolvulaceae (suku kangkung-kangkungan). Spesies ini memiliki pola hidup memanjat dengan akar tetap di tanah (liana). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Amerika Selatan bagian utara hingga Brazil. Nama ilmiah Maripa scandens pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Jean Baptiste Christophore Fusée Aublet pada tahun 1775.
