Matricaria occidentalis merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Oregon hingga Meksiko (Baja California, Gaudalupe). Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan valley mayweed. Nama ilmiah Matricaria occidentalis diperkenalkan oleh Edward Lee Greene pada tahun 1886.
