Medicago carstiensis merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Italia timur laut hingga Semenanjung Balkan. Nama ilmiah Medicago carstiensis diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Franz Xaver von Wulfen pada tahun 1787.
