Medicago rotata merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Mediterania timur hingga Iraq. Nama ilmiah Medicago rotata pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Pierre Edmond Boissier pada tahun 1843.
