Medicago rugosa merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Mediterania barat-tengah dan timur. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan wrinkled medick. Nama ilmiah Medicago rugosa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Louis Auguste Joseph Desrousseaux pada tahun 1792.
