Melilotus speciosus merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Maroko hingga Aljazair. Nama ilmiah Melilotus speciosus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Michel Charles Durieu de Maisonneuve pada tahun 1845.
