Cempaka merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Magnoliaceae. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan michelia. Nama ilmiah Michelia champaca pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carolus Linnaeus dalam Species Plantarum tahun 1753.
