Miconia calvescens merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Melastomataceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko selatan hingga kawasan tropis Amerika selatan. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan velvet tree. Nama ilmiah Miconia calvescens pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Augustin Pyramus de Candolle pada tahun 1828.
