Microlaena stipoides merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Jawa hingga Selandia Baru. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan weeping grass. Nama ilmiah Microlaena stipoides diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Jacques Labillardière pada tahun 1810.
