Moluccella spinosa adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan berbentuk perdu kecil dari famili Lamiaceae (suku nilam-nilaman) yang memiliki siklus hidup semusim (annual). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Mediterania. Nama ilmiah Moluccella spinosa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carolus Linnaeus dalam Species Plantarum tahun 1753.
