Monarda fistulosa var. rubra merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Lamiaceae (suku nilam-nilaman). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah Amerika Serikat bagian utara-tengah dan timur. Nama ilmiah Monarda fistulosa var. rubra diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Asa Gray pada tahun 1878.
