Mortonia scabrella merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Celastraceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan rio grande saddlebush. Nama ilmiah Mortonia scabrella pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Asa Gray pada tahun 1853.
