Mucuna platyphylla merupakan tumbuhan berkayu dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Spesies ini memiliki pola hidup memanjat dengan akar tetap di tanah (liana). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Sulawesi hingga Pasifik. Nama ilmiah Mucuna platyphylla diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Asa Gray pada tahun 1854.
