Munroa squarrosa merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Kanada barat, Amerika Serikat bagian barat dan tengah, hingga Meksiko timur laut. Nama ilmiah Munroa squarrosa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Thomas Nuttall pada tahun 1857.
