Neptunia lutea merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Oklahoma hingga Alabama. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan yellow puff. Nama ilmiah Neptunia lutea pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Melines Conklin Leavenworth pada tahun 1841.
