Nicandra physalodes merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Solanaceae (suku terong-terongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Peru hingga Argentina barat laut. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan apple of peru. Nama ilmiah Nicandra physalodes diperkenalkan oleh Joseph Gaertner pada tahun 1791.
