Oplonia spinosa merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Acanthaceae (suku jeruju-jerujuan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di wilayah Karibia. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan pricklybush. Nama ilmiah Oplonia spinosa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin pada tahun 1838.
