Oryza punctata adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan semusim atau menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di kawasan tropis Afrika dan Afrika Selatan, Madagaskar. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan red rice. Nama ilmiah Oryza punctata diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Georg Theodor Kotschy pada tahun 1853.
