Panicum aequinerve merupakan tumbuhan semusim atau menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Ethiopia, Afrika Selatan, hingga Madagaskar. Nama ilmiah Panicum aequinerve diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck pada tahun 1841.
