Panicum mapalense merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di kawasan tropis Afrika bagian timur. Nama ilmiah Panicum mapalense diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Robert Knud Friedrich Pilger pada tahun 1942.
