Panicum pampinosum merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari New Mexico hingga Meksiko. Nama ilmiah Panicum pampinosum diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Albert Spear Hitchcock pada tahun 1910.
