Panicum trichoides merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di kawasan tropis dan subtropis Amerika . Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan tropical panicgrass. Nama ilmiah Panicum trichoides diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Olof Peter Swartz pada tahun 1788.
