Paspalum malacophyllum merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Bolivia hingga Brazil dan Argentina bagian utara. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan ribbed paspalum. Nama ilmiah Paspalum malacophyllum diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Bernhard von Trinius pada tahun 1829.
