Perotis rara adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan semusim atau menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Indo-China hingga China tenggara dan Australia. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan comet grass. Nama ilmiah Perotis rara pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Robert Brown pada tahun 1810.
