Persea aurata merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Lauraceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di wilayah Brazil. Nama ilmiah Persea aurata diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel pada tahun 1850.
