Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di wilayah Kepulauan Hawaii. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan smallflower phyllostegia. Nama ilmiah Phyllostegia parviflora pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Charles Gaudichaud-Beaupré pada tahun 1830.
