Physalis lassa merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Solanaceae (suku terong-terongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko selatan hingga Guatemala. Nama ilmiah Physalis lassa diperkenalkan oleh Paul Carpenter Standley pada tahun 1943.
