Picris babylonica merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Mediterania timur hingga Iraq dan Jazirah Arab. Nama ilmiah Picris babylonica diperkenalkan oleh Heinrich Raphael Eduard Handel-Mazzetti pada tahun 1913.
